Island eye-candy
Just wrapped post for Barkins Spring/Summer fashion film, my favorite shooting location ever (sorry Buenos Aires).
Shot on Magnetic Island, a young woman re-explores the idyllic location of a reminiscent childhood vacation. That’s why she stares sultrily, strolls sensually and lolls languidly, absorbed in blithe ethereality. Cause I totally do that when I reminisce about my childhood. Don’t you?
Spring/summer collections need to be shot months prior to launch; under-dressed models shivering uncontrollably can betray the winter climate, but the North Queensland climate is perfect year round. Magnetic Island also has a startling diversity of landscape; pristine beaches, surreal volcanic rock formations, lush rain forests and craggy peaks. And we explored less than a quarter of its 52 sq.km…
Musical prodigy Tidy Kid composed and performed the rockabilly jingle, inspired by Beck and the steel-string strumming of the late great Gene Vincent, plus a dash of The Slew‘s rock and turntables.

There are some pretty pans in there, did you have a dolly or a steadycam?
The shoot was lean and mean, no time for dolly setups. We used a steadicam, you’d otherwise need a cumbersome jib to achieve a vertical/horizontal pan. But if the vertical pan’s elevation is minimal you can achieve a similar result to a jib with a steadicam, so long as the operator gets a smooth shot.
