ElectionWIRE

The Federal election is coming up and pundits who paid attention last time us proles went to the polls will point out that the youth vote could again prove decisive. While politicians scramble to figure out these new fangled social media thingamajigs on the interwebs, VibeWire in collaboration with Google/YouTube have launched ElectionWire, a news outlet and forum for political discussion.

To start the conversation, VibeWire recruited young upstart journos to shoot video reports on the lead up to the election as they see it from their city. I love symbiotic arrangements like these; the reporters get invaluable experience and a nice entry for their resumes, ElectionWire gets compelling content. I lent a helping hand by tutoring the recruits in the mystical art of editing, which gets de-mystified in this editing tips video. BTW – This is my first time in front of the camera rather than being positioned safely behind it.

It was interesting being directed rather than the director, especially in the very capable hands of Ali Russel of ABC’s The Hungry Beast.

But enough plugging my scant contribution, ElectionWIRE has my attention because it offers election news from an informed yet grass roots source. The election is outlined by mainstream media, but ElectionWIRE adds colour and shading to the picture.
